Blackout Alarm

Blackout Alarm alerts you when the electricity goes out. READ INSTRUCTIONS BELOW. Why should you care? For starters, a refrigerator without power will keep food at a safe temperature for only about four hours. You can probably think of other reasons you would want to be warned of an outage at your home.

Over the years, I've lost hundreds of dollars worth of food because a bad storm caused the power to go out during the night. Blackout Alarm is my solution. I plug it in when a storm is coming through and the electricity has been flakey. Blackout Alarm will monitor the circuit and if power is switched off or lost, the app will alert me up so I can start the generator and save my food.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS! To use Blackout Alarm, simply plug your device in to external power and launch the app. You must leave the app running if you want to hear an alarm; that's just the way it has to work. DO NOT QUIT THE APP. If the power goes out, you will hear the alarm. Test it first!

You can turn your device face down so the light doesn't bother you. Also, the app can only sound an alarm. It cannot call a phone or send a text message or email, because those actions can only be performed directly by a user.

Blackout Alarm also keeps a log of all power events.

ALWAYS TEST THE ALARM TO MAKE SURE IT WORKS!

DO NOT rely on Blackout Alarm for any life threatening or life critical applications, such as medical applications, or nuclear power generation. Blackout Alarm may fail to sound at any time for no good reason.
